The Hollies Truck Stop offers quite a large area for HGV lorry Parking. The surface is slowly being improved as part of an ongoing plan. Security guards monitor the site. (dated March 2008).

Coaches regularly use this stop at weekends for their passengers, who enjoy the good food and value it offers. Being available in all weathers day and night 7 days a week is the wonder of this operation, long may it continue, there are few such operations left in the UK.

The Hollies Transport Cafe Truck Stop & Lorry Park History

The Hollies Transport Cafe serving drivers since World War two, Gregory Peck the famous actor, dined here in 1950.

The Hollies Transport Cafe Truck Stop is a golden oldie, esentially a classic,, the sound file with this is from another classic "Hill Street Blues",,,, knowing both well enough I think they go well together. After some near 70 years of being a Cafe this has to be a record,, and personally I would like to thank all those who have been owners for keeping this classic Transport Cafe alive over all these years.

Records show that this was operating as a Cafe for travellers before 1933, reference a news paper clipping that shows the Cafe was sold in that year as a cafe, so this may be the longest continuous service, Transport Cafe in the UK, really quite remarkable.

The Hollies dependable 24/7 is impossible to beat, that alone is a standard that many just cannot match, the cost of all hours operation is not small, which is why few make this standard. The meals are large and true transport cafe prices. My travels over the Uk coupled with talking to drivers all over, have this Cafe logged in my head as the most well known Transport Cafe there is, possibly because of its position and unstinting service to the Lorry Driver. It may not be pretty and have super wallpaper for some coach passengers, but those who have eaten here can testify to the quality of the food.

The lorry parking area is being improved to remove pot holes, the new manager is trying hard to make any improvements that will benefit drivers, this is a very popular Truck Stop Transport Cafe. Improvements are being made to the cafe seating and tables and more,,, but this will take a little time. Many drivers who use this Golden Oldie Transport Cafe will be so pleased to see it is moving forward.

Webmaster Comments

The historical details for this cafe are quite unique making it stand out from others. Running any Truck Stop Transport Cafe 24/7 is a severe challenge for any business. Such operations need to cast a broad net for custom, because transport alone cannot generally support the overheads of 24/7 staff and security as this operation does.

I mention this to assist drivers who may on RARE occasions, just may, feel disadvantaged if the general public also use such facilities,, however in order to provide a service over all the hours a long distance HGV driver or WVM can need, we have to appreciate the economic needs of these Transport Cafes. Without extra customers it would to often be more than difficult to exist for the professional driver at all hours! I mention this not specifically for the Hollies, but for all operations in the UK. So on behalf of those drivers who call at all odd hours, a big thank you to the Hollies,, Thank you! hollies_1930
