Bentley's, Military Vehicles & Renault
Plus The Humble Renault Kangoo MPV & Formula one. Royal Show England, 2005, and other locations

Bentley Logo Bentley JOP466 restored October 2007 Photographs of Bentley, Renault, Military Vehicles, & Four wheel drive cars.

Bentley is a car that has a long history in the UK, it is quality personified as is Royals Royce, originally coming from the same stable (workshop).
On this page are photographs taken of Bentleys at the Royal Show in the UK in 2005. The craftsman ship is the best, everything about it is the best, the task to produce a car that simply has a price tag placed on it after all has been done to make it the best, or with the best, itself has a technical value beyond the product itself, and so could be considered alone, worthy of the enterprise. Engine wise we are looking at over 550BHP in a comfort car, which is about 500BHP more than my adequate Renault Kangoo.

To ride in cars like a Bentley is an experience, to drive them another experience. If you think your expensive car is quiet, then its not, but this is, and the ride is soft, bumps are a thing of the past. Such achievements whilst worthy, can, (note "Can" as a matter of debate) be considered unnecessary for the humble motor car. Rolls Royce acquired Bentley in 1931 so my reference to them originally being together was in fact from this date.

Further down this page are a number of reasonably sized photographs of Bentleys of various types, quite impressive and wonderful machines they are in their own right, taken at the Royal Show in England. Its probably worth mentioning here that these Bentleys have an engine size of about 550BHP and a HGV (heavy goods vehicle) of 44 tons (artic) on Britain’s roads can have an engine size between 500BHP and 600BHP, also Australian 68 ton HGV have about the same but often used on long straight flat roads. Why do we get to build cars like Bentleys, and for what real purpose, the answer is well known, the reason is indeed Interesting.

In contrast the humble Renault Kangoo MPV is also shown here, it also comes in Van form as a workhorse for trade and industry, with an oil change required at 18,000 mile intervals on the diesel DCI version. Its a common rail diesel with a low pressure turbo charger, the engine is essentially quiet, its size is near 1500cc and for a small vehicle that means nippy. If you forget to change to top gear you may not be aware of the difference, the engine is that quiet. Don’t accelerate quickly, drive it at 60mph or less, on motorways keep it at that level apart from the odd need to accelerate past another vehicle, not often required when doing 60MPH, but the returns are this 63 MPG genuine in my vehicle, the government test figure is 57MPG.

Bentley Continental Keeping things in perspective, what is a car for? Or, the transport you choose? Its communication or transportation of course,, but,, why a Bentley then, well I can appreciate the engineering achievement of a Bentley and such quality cars, but, a Renault Kangoo is also quality, but, to a certain end achievement, transportation. What can a Bentley do that a Kangoo cannot, given the task required, transportation from A to B, legally nothing because we have speed limits and any advantage can be offset by disadvantage. The Kangoo can transport more than humans, it can carry large domestic goods, half a dozen fridges or furniture, commercial items that would not fit into a Bentley or any other car. Lets consider the Renault Kangoo against other vehicles,, it has a high body position, its comfortable, driving position is good. Fuel price increases are less important due to its very good fuel efficiency, plus its ability as mentioned to carry goods. The three rear seats can be unclipped easily and you have an even larger goods area for large two seater chairs, or large domestic goods like four or six washing machines. The UK government test figures for the Kangoo show it to be very quiet, better than quite a few saloon and 4WD cars, which must be a surprise to many readers.

One of the most popular vehicles bought are 4 wheel drives, they are very often used to take children to school and back, you can see the rows of 4 wheel drives at some schools waiting for school finish time, and many of the same families will moan when we have a fuel prices increase. Why do these people need such a vehicle,,, the husband or other half, does not have a need for a 4 wheel drive any more than a ton of kippers delivered each day to your front door,,, so why,,, well its like good decoration,,, we all like to sit in our home and have surroundings (wallpaper) that we find pleasant, we all have slightly different tastes,, which is a good thing,,, but why do so many want a 4 wheel drive,,, it’s a flaw in the human makeup,,, they just really don’t need it,,, … .

Vehicles have become a status symbol, drivers in big cars treat drivers in smaller cars with less respect, because they think they themselves are more important, sensibility and reasonability don’t come into the equation, of course I generalise here and elsewhere in this text,,, but if you drive a large impressive car for a week and carefully observe how other drivers have consideration for you, and the same in a small car you will see the difference,,, its massive! I speak from 47 years of driving experience in all vehicle types .

I do find the odd 4 wheel drive owner who is considerate of course, they perhaps have the vehicle for good reason like a farmer or such worker who needs it, or they just love the engineering and do drive with care and good consideration, but, its very much on the rare side! .
I regret that for most its an huge ego trip which exposes the shortcomings in their makeup,, so consider when you drive around the uk or elsewhere, that what we call western society, has had to provide escape goods for its population, who have money to spend, more money than is needed for good living, there are technological advantages for progress, but its got out of hand when millions have no food, and those who do have much more than they need in their even advanced society, if we can call it this,,, it’s the Jones Syndrome,,, the Jones have one, so we want one, and ours is better than yours, just like kids. Personally if I drove a 4 wheel drive today apart from a farmers or farming need or the like,,, I would be double considerate,,, because I would be aware of the way many people would view me,,, and I could not wait to get into a none 4 wheel drive. There are those who rationalise that because they might get snow for 1/2/3 days a year and so need it, when chains would be better or at least do the job, but the reality that 99.999% of the time they don’t need it conveniently escapes them, such logic is beyond them, conveniently yet again, because they know really that they just want to impress those around them, but cannot say so. The reality is that those sensible and intellectually competent persons around them, see them for what they are.

To those genuine needy 4 wheel drive owners I offer my humble apologies, this is not directed at them. Many other cars have 4 wheel drive for traction reasons, but this is not needed on Britain’s roads, considering that the fuel cost is massively high for the facility, its another Jones Syndrome facility,, the cost per year in extra fuel is very high indeed, their need can be absolute zero. Most of these owners don’t even bother to research the running costs, the reality is they could half their fuel costs or near, the reason they don’t is a question the reader must answer themselves,,, however they do see the extra letters on the back of their car which is where I end this text!
