I think we are always fortunate to see Classic Cars; the owners restore these vehicles to a wonderful condition driven by love. Sometimes its the owners themselves who are able to care and restore a classic car, others can love them in just the same way,, but may not have the time or skill to do it themselves, so they employ a mechanic to do it for them,,, the result is the same for those who simply look as I do,, and I am grateful that we have such enthusiasts on our planet. This one is in Australia. You can see the SPECIAL FULL SIZE WIDE SCREEN PHOTOGRAPH further down this page.
I have compiled this Classic Car Page page with some extra photographs that perhaps dont belong to this group,, some are vintage, some are views in the area in which nearly all the photographs were taken.
The Classic Car photographs and most others on this page were taken on the Great Ocean Road in Australia,, it was their annual great ocean road rally organised by the RACV in 2007.

Generally I found driving manners in Australia to be very good indeed, especially in comparison with the UK where standards have dropped over the years. I do deeply believe that this is as a result of the way later generations have been brought up. Lack of consideration for others and not being MADE to behave considerately when in public,, the young person grows up generally not having any real appreciation for those who also are in transit through life as they are! The result is a get out of my way,, or at best,, why are you in my way attitude which has been inflicted on the person by their parents failures,,, then they themselves may have been failed by their parents,, and not had time to learn better ways,,, society is today full of people who don't look around themselves as they transit through everyday life.
We all have a duty in society, as individuals or and as parents to respect others in society, when a failure exists it can come out when the person is driving whatever they drive. As a result some of these people may end up dead in a crash, taking with them at times innocent people.
Let is look at people simply walking on a footpath in any shopping area,,, for example a parent with two or more children,, the path has limited width,,, walking towards them is perhaps an old couple who move into single file to pass,,, the parent with children keep going still taking up the full footpath,,, the old couple are either forced into the road,,, or,,, they do as I do,,, simply stop requiring the children to take evasive action,,, sometimes actually walking into the stationary old couple or knocking them.
The point of the above is to demonstrate where this attitude of bad drivers often starts,,, whilst they are taught to look,,, they simply revert back to their own ways expecting others to move out of the way, not really looking,,, not even a care,,, these are arrogant inconsiderate people who would do well to have accidents with each other rather then with careful defensive drivers.

I believe this to be a Bradford Van, again I think it was often known as a Bradford Jowat Van. The engine was a flat twin water cooled fourstroke, I am advised bt Allan Wiliams (thanks Allan) in Egremont near the west Cumbrian coast. This photo can be seen in large size on a link on this page.
Classic Buick in cream (this link is sized at 1680X1260 for wide screen) this type (or similar) of car was often shown as used by gangsters in movies.

Bradford Jowat Van mobile on the great ocean road.
A reader in the Uk sent me the following information regards Bradford vans such as this.
Regarding the Bradford van, the maker of these was definitely Jowett and the commercial range (pickups and vans) bore the Bradford badge .
The first one I drove back in the dark ages (when men were men and women ran faster than they seem to do today) bore the registration LAO787 , AO and RM denoting the county of Cumbria, or as it was then Cumberland. I remember that they had a very poor lock and a sharp right hand turn required two manoeuvres to get round, also due to the six volt system the starting handle was often required and they could kick like a mule.
As I have already said the engine was a flat twin water cooled fourstroke and I can quote one instance where one of these vans had suffered a cracked block through frost (antifreeze was seven shillings and sixpence a pint which was expensive) (webmaster note,, an electrician was paid about £3.00 per week in about 1954) the block was beyond repair and the owner decided that he could not make matters worse so he removed the radiator and chipped off most of the water jacket round the engine and ran it air cooled for several months. This is a true story. It took place in a little village called MOOR ROW near Egremont, the tear would be round about 1956 and the guy that owned the Bradford is still alive.
I don't go to the Oswestry show, we only venture as far as Helmsley in Yorkshire, apart from that we do all the local shows. We live in the small town of Egremont near the west Cumbrian coast, a real nice place to be, I am 68 years old and apart from the old engines I play guitar (blues) and drums (jazz) .
Your image states "jowat" and this is not correct, the manufacturers name was "jowett", they were well ahead of their time with design and they made the Jowett Javelin saloon and the Jowett Jupiter sports model, They also made generating sets for the government and these had the same engine as the Bradford van,.
Yes I am still interested in old stuff (my wife included) I attend a few rallies with me 1938 lister pumping outfit and I have a 1945 Wolseley engine, I am a retired motor mechanic and my son is still in the trade, he spends a lot of time avoiding being killed on the motorways, thanks for the reply...alan

Ford Thunderbird 1950's style This has been corrected by Kerry Maloney in Australia,, The models are 1956 Star Model Ford Customlines, the Star model designation coming from the grill emblem. These vehicles were a very prestigious car in Australia in the 1950's, they were built for the Australian market by ford of Canada. The Fordomatic designation refers to the three speed automatic they were fitted with. Auto's were still uncommon in Australia at this time and so were a big marketing point. Kerry says the great ocean road is one of the greatest driving roads in the world, no matter how many times he travels down it, he finds it exiting,,,,,,,,,,,,,, he is right! Thanks for the contribution Kerry.

Thanks Trevor, this car was being built near a town called Dimboola in Australia and it could be a conglomerate of bits of cars,, I will make enquiries but I am sure you are correct. Australian Town Hall and main street This photo and the next show how clean and smart Australia looks,, no rubbish thrown away on the street,, Local authorities have the power to deal with this problem in the UK, they have failed totally in my opinion,, central government will have to order them to deal with it, which indicates a local authority malaise!
