The Great Ocean Road Australia
Holidays in Australia really need a trip on the Great Ocean Road (sometimes referred to as the Australian Great Coastal Road), the eroding coastline; terrific scenery and a stop at Apollo Bay are definitely on the order book. Fancy names for rocks or pillars left standing in the ocean are commonplace, just the same as in the rest of the world.
On this page will be some photographs of the Great Ocean Road, and also a few of the vintage cars (another page will cover in full those vintage cars collected together on this Great Ocean Road) in Australia as they progressed around the Great Ocean Road and into Apollo Bay and other stopping places. They were immaculate in turnout, tributes to their owners, and we should all really thank them for keeping our history in such good order. I hope you will enjoy them as much as I did. As perhaps an extra for some readers, I am happy to pass on anything I learned from the trip to Australia, air fares, airlines, accommodation costs though I have limited knowledge in the latter area, but I do have some and am happy to share it. This Great Ocean Road has at times been attacked by the sea and as such removed further inland for safety, its an ever changing planet. There is a collection of sea rocks/stacks that were or still are called "London Bridge", the bridge section of this has fallen down into the sea, when it did fall down some people were stranded on the now marooned rock stack and the rescue services were called out to rescue them,,, a lucky escape for them!

A coastal inlet on Great Ocean Road Australia The nature of the rock is such that it wears away rather easily leaving majestic outlines.
--
Coastline & beach on the Great Ocean Road Australia This is an enlargement of the second small photo on this page,, the sands were so clean, but then so is all Australia.
--
Ocean Blow Hole on the Great Ocean Road Australia This was some hundred yards inland from the coast.
--
The Australian Apostles, Famous part of the Great Ocean Road in Australia Wonderful sight to see such designs made by nature. There were 9 of these stacks but one just shuddered and collapsed down into a pile of rocks and sand.
--
The Australian Apostles again, but closer. Famous part of the Great Ocean Road in Australia Every angle of photograph on such subjects is different.
--
Waves from a rough sea on the Great Ocean Road in Australia The suns low angle has highlighted the waves in this photo as it was taken late in the day.
--
A rough sea and low clouds developing a mist on the Great Ocean Road in Australia This different section of the road has views to more rocks out at sea, no doubt once they were tall and have worn over time to become what we see today in 2007.
--
As above but showing a rough sea again on the Great Ocean Road in Australia Personally I love to see nature at work as in this photograph.
--
Another photograph but of a calmer sea and a wonderful sky with picture book sands on the Great Ocean Road in Australia
--
London Bridge has fallen down London Bridge is the name of this set of ocean rocks on the Great Ocean Road in Australia, it was a complete bridge but fell down and left tourists stranded on the outer part,,, Phewww!! bet they tell the tale of the great escape many times,,, wouldn’t you!

The 7 year Australian Drought has reduced this lake (Lake Heindmarsh) to a complete bed of sand Quiet a contrast from the ocean road where there is water in plenty. Australia has serious problems and this is not the only lake to have this problem, the river that supplies it is in truth no longer a river in part, but a collection of odd pools of water, some longer that others
--
Wimmera River at least by name Water is there but then its sand as the photograph shows,,, very sad indeed.
--
Wimmera River Boathouse just happens to have a section of water by it,, but using the boat slip is a no no!
--
Wimmera River Rock Pools Snakes used to swim in this river, perhaps they still do,, this sections runs through what is called The Little Desert.
--
This is a download of the Wimmera River Map, at 400kb on a modem you may not wish to download it unless you have real need.
--
A Kenworth Road Tanker well we have to have a truck, here is one with Tom O Donohue driving, I am not sure if he has been down the great ocean road with it,,, but who knows!
--
A Victorian Civil Ambulance the next page will have more of this and many others, so follow the photo gallery list page!
