Sands of time have run out 4 the Moss.
The moss Transport Cafe Truck Stop was one of the oldest Transport Cafes in the UK. It had a reputation for being a real Truckers stop, or Lorry drivers as they (we) were.
Today it has gone forever. The Moss Cafe was a landmark for long distance drivers, I remember this Transport cafe in the 1950 period, I feel sure it has been around from the 1940,s period, perhaps you the reader can tell me or pass me a phone number of someone who can tell me.
I have put the MOSS TRANSPORT CAFE here in the pages of active Transport Cafes as a tribute to the owner/s over the years. I am sure little chef have been banging on the door of his private home for a long time. Transport drivers have a lack of affection for little chef, especially when another Transport Cafe bites the dust because of little chef (I have heard the phrase LITTLE THIEF).
So fellow travellers and commercial drivers, HGV LGV PSV (I can think of another V) this page is a farewell to the Moss, was it good or bad, it was there a long time, which is much more than most who have gone before it after less time, many to little thief, Errrr little chef. I am sure some little chefs are very good, for the motorist, but, for the Lorry Driver, Truck driver, Transport driver, they are the takers of transport history, the removers of a monument, a meeting place 24 hours a day, always there, now no more.............

I was sad to see the Moss die as well; I used to look forward to the large portions, cheeky banter with the staff and (in the winter) the open fire
Your comments about "Little Thiefs" are exactly right, I have a little book of transport cafes (Egon Ronay/ Crane Fruehauf 1975) given to me by my dad, a (now retired) driver, and it is astounding the number of small independent cafes mentioned which are now Little Thiefs.
