Road tolls or charging
Road Tolls or charging schemes or plain and simple road toll charges can be very varied, especially as NOTHING has been decided, the debate is on and that is healthy, its the way a democracy works, so its up to different groups in society to decide where they stand,,, but can they do this objectively,,, be unbiased,,, considering the other chaps point of view is not of course the object in a system that runs on adversarial challenge and counter challenge. Its the basic way it works in the courts of the UK etc; the idea being each chap presents his/her case to 12men/women good and true who then decide whats what! Truth may not out,,, but in the case of this debate there is no logical reason why the best or better system should not prevail.
Of course many weaker members in our society may have great concern about road toll charges, but those who are well shod with cash will consider it a mere inconvenience,, after all they can pay.
One group who come to mind are old age pensioners, senior citizens, particularly those who have little spare cash but have budgeted in their working life to have a car in retirement, enabling them to travel though their own country outside peak rush hours of the city or town roads,,, but generally in quite country roads,,, that said they will require to use the motorway when its not so busy as a general rule. You just wont find the massive majority of pensioneers travelling in the rush hour traffic anywhere by design,, they will avoid it like the plague!
There are many roads in the UK, it’s a crosshatch of roads many are always quiet and such factors need to be taken into account.
London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, and many more cities have serious traffic problems and if the reader of this text knows a way to reduce traffic a better way, he or she should perhaps tell us all so the debate can stop and his or her plan adhered to.
I suspect that the loudest objectors have no plan, or perhaps I should say no plan that would actually work,,, whereas road toll charges would work to reduce traffic in the cities, London has proved this already,,, but one would assume that the introduction of charges to none city areas would not even be considered, after all its only there where there is a problem.
With regards to the city residents who want to drive around in their own car in their own town or city and yet have everybody else vacate the road in front of them,, there is little hope of any solution for these dear souls,, perhaps especially the 4 wheel drive community,,, (not farmers and hill folk) some of who actually think that because they work for their money they can spend it on what they like no matter the consequences to all around them. They use for example buying their own house, and say they have the freedom to buy a house of any size so why should they not be able to drive a 4 wheel drive to deliver and collect school children, in fact use it everywhere because its their right!
I regret that such people are limited thinkers, and that’s being very kind, the dammed truth is they are selfish inconsiderate people who only care for themselves, only think for themselves, they are quite capable of running a good business, many of their qualities are very handy for success,,,, mercenary qualities,,, self self self,, and more self….
We have to find a solution and a fair solution and so we must have a public debate and we will need to listen (well that’s the system) to loud and or powerful self interest people and groups,,,, ( to be fair that can be considered a healthy brain storming session) but in the end the considerate caring thinking groups and individuals must prevail, the silent majority must speak up and be heard,,,
A few words about traffic lights as this page is developing,,,
The traffic lights in England (Wales and Scotland can be much better generally) are a casual matter for the highways agency,, especially those temporary lights.
They are all fitted with sensors that can be adjusted for different situations,, I regret that most,, which I estimate to be around 95% from experience,,, are not even set, they are left to a common timer,, the result be frustration and pollution on a quite massive scale when you consider the whole of England,,, You know this is true, I know this is true,,, but those in charge don’t give a dam,,, after all who will require them to do the job as it should be done,,, who,,, the management of those responsible in the highways agency don’t give a hoot (excuse the pun) well if they did we would not have a situation where we all sit twiddling our thumbs waiting for the lights to switch,, whilst we watch the opposite lights who have NO queuing traffic,,,, the sensors could have seen the situation,,, but,,, well those who are responsible still get their pay at the end of the month,, so they don’t give a dam! and if we dare to cross them even if we can see the road clear for a mile on a straight road we can be charged with jumping a red light,,, what a delight,,, don’t you love the highways agency,, I mean those in charge are so caring, considerate,, don’t want accidents,, caused by frustrated drivers,,, but,,, but by their deliberate design they don’t give a hoot! Now lets be quite honest and factual about this,, these very people cannot say they don’t know,, unless they all go to work by train,, or a Beam Me There Scotty Job,,
Lets consider those traffic lights that are fixed,,, are they capable of being quite clever,,, yes they are,,, but,,, how long do you sit at traffic lights waiting whilst zero traffic passes on the green route,,, and who is responsible,,, The highways agency,, because those in charge have soft jobs, every month they get a pay cheque,, even if the lights all need attention,,, the attention needed is someone who cares,, someone who is proud of their work,,, if you work for the highways agency in management you should be ashamed of yourself,,, you cannot have any pride,, and it would seem you don’t give a dam hoot about those who you work for,,, the general public or the planet which you are responsible for dumping millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere every day in the UK,, due to vehicles doing longer hours than need be, due to 99% of traffic lights being in essence,,, FAULTY!
The long distance professional driver has lots of time to think about everything.
Please dont use your mobile phone whilst driving, its not smart, using your phone whilst driving none hands free can mean you end up in jail with free B&B for manslaughter, and thats dumb, stupid, not the act of a person who thinks ahead,,, dont do it!
