The Pink Lake on the Main Melbourne Adelaide Road.
This is the remarkable Pink Lake in Dimboola (see full size photo on lower link). The actual water does under certain conditions fully appear pink,, but also around the edges after a long period of zero rain the edge colouring is quite remarkable, its a salt of a type which is pink.
The Main Melbourne Adelaide Road Places of interest!
Australia is a rather large place but I have covered the Adelaide to Melbourne road and can tell you what I found out, with the help of Photographs. I have a few Lorry/truck photographs and places of interest which I hope will be help you if you are going to travel between Melbourne and Adelaide. Different parts of Australia will vary so what I say here applies to these two States, Victoria & Australia.
In Dimboola itself which is half way between Melbourne and Adelaide there is a good Cafe stop know as Harvey’s,, The Dimboola Cafe,,, but every chap knows that its his wife who is the real boss. If you have been to Australia then you would have heard about, "The Lot" which is a burger of whatever type with the lot,,,, wots the lot! well its egg bacon cheese lots of veggie and other things all in a rather large bread bun,,, of course chips come on the side. At Harvey’s the price is right, the food is right, the banter is right what more can you ask! Long business hours until late evening,,, so if you are travelling the highway between Melbourne and Adelaide make this your stop and make your day! If you want vegetarian food or other choices Harvey will supply, No Worries,,, you don’t need to have the LOT!

This is the pink Lake in Dimboola Australia,,, need to know more,,, well read the information sign shown lower down as a photo link on this page,, but regards the view,,, quite a remarkable sunset.
The Pink Lake Dimboola, Australia This first photograph is an enlarged version of the small photo which is top most on this page. Its quite unreal to see and this particular condition would seem to need a lack of rain for the lake level to drop, followed by sun light from an advantageous angle
--
Truck or heavy goods vehicle in Australia, Western Star! Taking a rest on the Melbourne Adelaide road, quite a good looker in the truck world!
--
An Australian Truck heading towards Melbourne This driver is passing a road house which is Australian for transport cafe, and american for truck stop.
--
A Roadhouse Menu in May 2007, Australia I was impressed by the standard of all eating places in Australia, and I would have to say especially roadhouses,,,, well I would wouldn't I! but it has to be true. This was a Caltex Roadhouse in Horsham about halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide, jolly decent it was too, ,,,, you like that!!!
--
The Pink Lake at sunset in Dimboola, Australia This was quite a sight,, its the enlarged version of the small photo oposite. Below we have another but is the photo upside down,,,, have a look and you tell me?
--
The Pink Lake Dimboola upside down The lake is calm, the sun is setting, the clouds are in the sky,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or are they in the lake? have I inverted the photograph??????
--
The Pink Lake Dimboola, Australia another sunset we might as well have another photo of this fine scene,, but is it upside down also?
--
Freeway Melbourne Hills Tunnel Melbourne is quite a sight from the air at night, the roads snake all over with thos one heading for Adelaide over the hills, well through this one. I saw the heavy clouds around these hills when we were landing, thunder and lightning all over the place, it was 6am local time, traffic filling the roads, and we were approaching from the seaward side, banking over looking at this complete display,, sorry this is just a pic of the road entering the tunnel,,, ever tried to take a night picture of a moving target,, I didnt! but later (on another page) I do have many shots of Melbourse from a viewing tower on the highest building,,, heck of a sight
--
More distant shot of the Freeway Melbourne Hills Tunnel Another of the above tunnel but from a distance.
--
Australian Road Trucks The bars must serve a purpose,, but not good if you hit a human or a car,, no impact ability built in.
--
An Old Bedford Truck in Australia I used to drive one of these around London at times,, in about 1950/60 something!
--
More Australian Road Trucks passing each other, just another day in the life of a lorry/truck driver.
--
The British Army in Australia well its true,,,, I didn't say when,,, in fact this is about an hours drive from Melbourne in the gold hills of Australia, the city of Ballarat and Soverign Hill. This is a real visitor location. I stayed at the onsite Hotel, excellent accommodation, and a wonderful old town to visit, this is just one photo more on other pages, you can still pan for gold here and get some.
--
European Trucks also populate Australia Entering a town is only done if delivery is required as a general rule, then they may be a weight limit!
--
Small Road Tanker in Australia This Tanker was passing through Neil on the main highway.
--
Collins Road Transport Australia This road train was passing through Horsham on the main road,, this is a 24/7 truck which travels day and night on this road with drivers based in different places.
--
Kenworth Road Tanker Australia Another smart looking outfit on the highway.
--
Typical road through Australian town What is obvious to people from the UK is the wide streets as America because they are essentially new countries, without the clutter of many old buildings before cars and lorries were invented, also they both have more space.
--
Harveys Dimboola Cafe Australia The hospitality that Harvey and his wife give to customers is par excellent! I know its abit of a way for UK drivers to go,,, but who knows one days you may be passing by,,, plus we do get a few hundred or thousand Australian visitors on this site each month, say Hello to Harvey for me if you call in!
