John Bowler's Free Range Eggs
Free Range Eggs from John Bowler En Route to the shop
in their Smart Articulated Vehicle

I have been along the road of life, from a junction where hens or chickens were all free range, as society moved on hens were kept in big barns or sheds, (deep litter) less space was needed, and the hens laid more eggs or were easier to manage, more profit, then came cages and more eggs per chicken, more profit and cheaper eggs for the customer, you and me,,,, it is all of us that have caused chickens to be caged in hen houses, battery hens is the name for this method,, then some of the general public started to think about the chickens or hens, whatever you wish to call them,,, it appeared that it was not right to keep any living thing locked up in such a manner for our gain.

Personally I feel aware that as an individual I am to blame. As this awareness touched me I made the decision not to ever buy an egg unless it was free range,, NO MATTER THE PRICE,,, its my way of doing what I think is the right thing, a small contribution to a better society,,, you contribute every time you buy a box of free range eggs,,, its so easy to help in this way, it takes no effort,,, just a conscious decision to do it!

When you next go around your supermarket,,, don’t buy the cheap eggs,,, buy the free range ones,,, you should I hope, feel much better about the decision, then think about it when you use the egg in your meal,,, its your contribution,,, encouraging the Free Range Egg producers to be profitable,,, and supply more and more Free Range Eggs,,,, we can do this,,, every person who reads this can help to make the life of these chickens as good as we would like it for ourselves. (well you can walk around a field all day if you like,,, but its the chickens choice, as we have one). I am aware that some readers wont agree,, or they may be restrained financially,, I do understand that,,, many of us have been there in the latter case,,, but one day as soon as you can,, do your bit to make our society a more considerate one,,, chickens cant vote,,, they cant call their MP and complain,, they do I regret rely on humanity,, and we have all failed them at one time or another.

If you run a Transport Cafe or any eating establishment,,, I suggest you also consider buying free range eggs,,, add that extra cost "only" to the price of the meal,,, and advertise it to your customers,, with a,,,,,,,,,,, We Only use Free Range Eggs,,,,, we only charge a small net amount for using free range eggs, no profit is made on the extra cost.
I am sure it will have a positive impact,,, I have actually done this whilst in business,,, it was a plus, it conveyed to the customer that we cared,,, not just about chickens, which was true,, we did care about everything,,, as we all should………

The photographs below show L.E. Jones of Ruthin in Wales, its a warming sight to see a vehicle loaded with hay or straw, this vehicle is no exception.
Sandy Kydd of Forfar, Scotland is seen here en route northbound from England.
Selby's Garage Transport Leicester has an HGV here with a loved look.
Lamb Western Potato Products in a well turned out vehicle.
Norbert Dentressangle in good condition as they near always seem to be.

Finally I have a Bass Pale Ale Waggon or Lorry as it would have been called in those days,, this photo was taken in the 1950's,,, see the smart gent in the woolly jumper (his Mum knitted) and Shades (sun glasses) strolling by,,, I thought a blast from the past would be a nice end to this page, wonder what the lorry was, seems to belong to the AA (automobile association), it does seem like their badge on the radiator,,, remember that,,, they used to be on the front and still boiled on a hot day. I understand the location was Farnborough Air Show.

Truck Stops Transport Cafes photos around Britain In a couple of weeks I shall show you a photograph of a Transport Cafe and garage taken by an Royal Air force photographer as he flew over in the 1950's,, The Transport cafe was on the A1,, as it was then,, today that bit of the A1 has been bypassed. I shall be calling in to see if the Cafe and garage still exists, one lorry seems to have LIN CAN written on the side,, which is a company that was still around a few years ago, and I presume still is. They made the cans for coca cola, perhaps still do,, whatever I hope to have a photo from 2004 to go with it,, can anyone lend me a flying machine for a hour or so!
