This week, 11th September 2004 this,,, another,, selection of photographs is added, starting with W Wilson of Kendal Cumbria, en route to base on the M6.
We have a Norton motorbike, Dominator 88 or 99 , 500 and 600cc respectively. I had the great pleasure of owning one of these 600cc dominators in red in the 60’s, it was kitted out with avonaire fairing, twin carbs, high lift cams, high compression pistons, the drive cog was minus a tooth to give it even more acceleration,, it would out accelerate Triumph Bonneville’s and anything else on the road up to 110MPH, then it finished,,, however speeds like that were only allowed on the motorway,,, on normal roads, it just went around corners so well with its cradle frame, that others could not follow, because no other bike had a cradle frame in those days,,, not initially at least,,
I recall on one occasion riding down to RAF Uphaven, on the way I came up to another bike enjoying the country air, however when I came up he accelerated as if it was a game,, but his bike was terrible on the corners and I really thought he was going to crash,,, I decided that there were two things I could do,,, drop right back, because if he kept this up he would be having an accident,,,, or pass him,,, the roads were see around the bend type due to the lack of hedges in parts,, so when he came to a band I accelerated away on the outside and passed him and vanished into the distance, which may have saved his bacon,,, his rear wheel was whipping and losing contact with the ground badly, such were none cradle frames,,
This kind gentleman allowed me to photograph his immaculate pride and joy, whilst he was on a Sunday outing.
A German coach on tour passing through the UK, very smart indeed, followed by my old Royal Air Force mobile photographic unit or section in Germany. The officer commanding was F/lt Lee Palmer, an Australian, a first class officer. We see him here on convey with 8MFPS or 8MFPU as some call it, all the smaller vehicles are shown in this photo kindly supplied by Tony Woodward, a sergeant photographer who was involved with the creation of that unit in about 1953.

Loch Clash Scotland has this HGV taking fish and shell fish to various parts of the EU,, you would be surprised to know that when you sit down in the south of France or German city and many others,, that you have Scottish fish and shell fish on the menu, all delivered in giant tanks. The Trucks journey start on an A class road that is more than 50 miles of single track road, hell for the driver in the tourist season, unless it’s the dead of night, that takes some concentration, you take care out there!
