The new Ford F-Max has won the 2019 International Truck of the Year 2019 (IToY) award, with the announcement being made at the IAA Show in Hannover on September 19.

The Turkish-built truck gained 104 votes, 30 more than Scania’s L- and P-series urban distribution trucks. Volvo’s gas-powered FH was third with 56 votes.

The new truck has a flat floor cab over a 500hp Ford Ecotorq engine married to the ZF TraXon gearbox. IToY chairman Gianenrico Griffini said: “With the introduction of F-Max, Ford Trucks has delivered a fine engineered tractor that can be a meaningful new player in the highly competitive segment of long-haul transport.”

The truck will be in production soon, but will only be available in left hand drive so will not be sold in the UK.

MAN won the first IToY Truck Innovation Awardfor its eFAS level 4 automated driverless safety truck, beating the Mercedes eActros, Renault’s Range D ZE Electric, ZF’s Innovation Truck, Volvo’s eFL and eFE and DAF’s Ecochamps.
