Ashford International Truckstop was presented with its Truckstop of the Year trophy on January 23. It scooped the large Truckstop of the Year category, sponsored by Crouch Recovery.
The award was presented to the owner Darrell Healey and General Manager Darren Smith by TSN Editor Pip Dunn. Many of the site’s staff were at the presentation to see the trophy handover.
Mr Smith said: “On behalf of Ashford International Truckstop, I would like to thank Truckstop News and all its customers for giving us this award, it’s a great honour especially in our last year on this site.”
“We have not only been busy developing our new facilities ready for the grand opening in 2020, but also doing our upmost to provide a top service in the existing site. To win this award in our last year means everything to us as a company and the staff here in Ashford.
AIT has new facilities under construction which will open in May 2020 with parking spaces for up to 660 trucks.
The main building will have a wide range of facilities which will include shower pods, a huge restaurant and bar catering for everyone’s needs, shop, hotel bedrooms, large, fully-equipped gym, automated app payment system, electric fridge plug in bays and a wi-fi/games area.
Darren added: “This will be a massive upgrade on the current site, which I believe will make it one of the biggest and best in the UK and Europe.”
Pip said: “AIT is a great site already in terms of serving the needs of hard-working truck drivers and is set to get better with its expansion and increased facilities.
“Good facilities for drivers is of paramount importance. It will help them in the job, make them less stressed and so safer and happier in their work. Long distance lorry driving, with multiple nights away from your home and family, is a challenging and stressful jobs, so knowing they can park in a safe and well-equipped truckstop gives drivers increased peace of mind.”
